Pilgrimage
gazing
blankly and so softly
emptied of all thought
as my exhale creates a ghostly mist
a bird calls outside bidding adieu
to the full moon that still sits high
and the sun’s rising glow
creates hues of indigo, vermillion, and magenta
as it dissolves the dark silhouettes
revealing trees and tall grasses on the marsh
to be kissed by first light
I have travelled miles and miles
a journey of emotional highs, lows and unexpected joys
my eyes and soul were blessed with beauty and kindness
it has turned cold now
and now I long
for the feel of hot water on my skin
these bones are chilled
and have become weary on this path
the company is fine
but I long for someone
by my side
to feel a loving embrace that warms
me through to my very marrow
I long for the penetrating rays
of the sun
to warm my bones
and expand my lungs
with new life
